Utah Food Bank – FOOD DRIVE

During the next 3 summer months schools across the country including the State of Utah will be closed for summer vacation. Kids will shrug off their backpacks, run free, and many children will be wondering when and how they will get their next meal.
When free and reduced price school programs close for the summer many families turn to the Utah Food Bank to help fill the gap in missing meals.
Here are the startling statistics:
- 1 in 10 Utahns, and 1 in 8 Utah children, live in poverty.
- An impoverished family of four makes about $22,000 a year to cover health care costs, shelter, food, and other household expenses.
- Utah is ranked 4th in the nation for the highest rate of very low food security. About 400,000 Utahns risk missing 1 meal every day.
- More than 134,000 Utahns receive food stamps, and 63,000 eat dinner at a soup kitchen.
- 1 in 7 children is at risk of hunger, and nearly 40% receive free or reduced price school lunches.
Most of us don’t have to worry about where our next meal will come from, or if there will even be a next meal. Hunger is a fight that, with your help, we can win. Our goal this summer is to make an impact in these children’s lives, and do our best to ensure that not even one child in our state has to go to bed hungry.
We cannot win this battle on our own. We need the support and contributions of individuals and local businesses to help us reach our goal. The Utah Food Bank, through generous food donations and wonderful community support, has the ability to turn a $1 cash donation into $7 worth of food and services.

You can also donate food supplies to our Office. Some of the most needed food items are:
- Peanut butter
- Tuna fish
- Canned fruit and vegetables
- Canned stews and chili
- Boxed meals
- Macaroni and cheese
- Pasta
